Pentti Juhani Kokkonen (born December 15, 1955 in Jämsä ) is a former Finnish ski jumper . He jumped for the Lahti City Association , the Lahden Hiihtoseura .

Career

He had his first appearance in an international jumping competition on December 30, 1976 at the Four Hills Tournament. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1978 in his hometown of Lahti, he was fifth on the normal hill. In the winter of 1978/79, after victories in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen and two third places in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf, he won the overall ranking of the 27th Four Hills Tournament . Since the Ski Jumping World Cup of the FIS was not introduced until the following year and Kokkonen could not win a new victory in his career, he can not place a World Cup victory.

In the following years he was one of the world's best and occasionally reached podium placements until the end of his career after the winter of 1985/86. He was able to achieve his greatest successes in the 1980s with the Finnish team led by Matti Nykänen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 he won bronze with the team, then gold in 1984 in Engelberg and 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol .

Kokkonen has been the coach of the Finnish junior team since 2004.
