Myrbakken started his career in 1991 in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . After he was able to prove his quality in the first competitions, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on March 13, 1991 in Trondheim . On December 5, 1992, he was with the 15th place while jumping in the Swedish Falun win its first World Cup point. Two weeks later he stood on the podium for the first time in Sapporo and jumped to 3rd place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1993 , he won the gold medal in team jumping with Helge Brendryen , Øyvind Berg and Espen Bredesen . At the end of the season in Planica he jumped to 2nd place with the team and was on the podium with the team in a World Cup competition for the first time. He finished the 1992/93 World Cup season in 10th place in the overall World Cup ranking. In the Ski Flying World Cup he was also 10th at the end of the season.
At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he jumped to 39th place on the normal hill. After the games he jumped again with the team in the team competition in Lahti to 3rd place and thus to the podium. After that, however, he remained rather unsuccessful and unsuccessful and ended his active ski jumping career after the 1994/95 World Cup season .
