Maciej Kot (born June 9, 1991 in Limanowa ) is a Polish ski jumper and member of the Polish A-team. His greatest international successes are the gold medal with the Polish team at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti and the bronze medal with the Polish team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . He jumps for the AZS Zakopane .
Career
Kot made his international debut on January 21st and 22nd, 2006 at the FIS-Cup jumping in Ljubno . He made his debut in the World Cup in a team competition on March 10, 2007 in Lahti , where he finished seventh with the Polish team. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in Tarvisio , he finished 15th in the individual and sixth place in the team competition. On December 13, 2007, he took part in an individual World Cup in Villach for the first time and finished in 35th place. At the Junior World Championships in Zakopane in 2008 he won the bronze medal in the team competition and was seventh in the individual competition. On July 6, 2008, Kot won a Continental Cup competition for the first time in Kranj, Slovenia . At the 2009 Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso , he won the individual silver medal and bronze with the Polish team.
In July 2010 he won his first Polish championship title with the AZS Zakopane team in the team competition and his first individual medal on the large hill with third place. On August 7, 2010, he won the first victory in a Grand Prix competition with the Polish team in Hinterzarten . In February 2011 he won the silver medal on both the normal and the large hill at the Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey . With the Polish team, he took bronze.
On December 3, 2011, he scored his first World Cup points with 19th place in Lillehammer . At the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund he was 38th in the individual and seventh with the Polish team. On March 3, 2012, he jumped in the team competition in Lahti with the Polish team in third place for the first time on a podium in the World Cup.
On July 21, 2012, he achieved his first victory in the Summer Grand Prix on the large hill in Wisła . At the Polish championships on September 2nd, 2012 on the same hill , he won his first national individual title. He achieved his first top ten placement in an individual World Cup competition with fifth place in the 2013 New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as part of the Four Hills Tournament 2012/13 . He repeated this result almost two weeks later in Zakopane . In total, he achieved seven individual results among the top ten in the 2012/13 season and finished 18th in the overall World Cup at the end of the season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme in 2013 , he and his teammates Piotr Żyła , Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch won the bronze medal in the team competition behind Austria and Germany and thus the first Polish team medal in ski jumping at a world championship. In the individual competitions, he finished eleven on the normal and 27th on the large hill. A few days later, Kot won the gold medal both individually and in a team at the 2013 Polish Championships in Wisła.
At his first Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 , he reached seventh place in individual jumping on the normal hill and ended up in twelfth place on the large hill. In the team competition, he finished fourth with Piotr Żyła , Jan Ziobro and Kamil Stoch and barely missed a medal. At the World Ski Flying Championships in Harrachov in 2014 , he finished tenth in the individual competition.
On January 11, 2015, Kot won a Winter Continental Cup competition for the first time in Wisła and thus the second COC competition in his career.
In the summer of 2016, Kot was the outstanding ski jumper in the Grand Prix . He took part in six individual competitions, of which he won five and took second place once. As a result, he won the overall Grand Prix ranking with 580 points. He couldn't carry over his superiority into the winter season. Nevertheless, the 2016/17 World Cup was the most successful of his career up until then. On December 3, 2016, he won the team competition in Klingenthal together with Piotr Żyła , Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki , which was the first World Cup victory of his career for him. It was also the first victory of a Polish team in a World Cup team competition. In the further season, among other things, a second place in Zakopane and another victory in Willingen with the Polish team followed. On December 11, 2016, he achieved his first podium finish in an individual World Cup competition as second in Lillehammer behind Kamil Stoch. On February 11, 2017, he was able to win his first individual World Cup in Sapporo, tied with Peter Prevc . His second victory at the Olympic pre-event in Pyeongchang followed on February 16, 2017 . He finished the season with 985 points in fifth place in the overall World Cup and thus his first place in the top ten. He was also very successful at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in February 2017. In the individual competitions, he jumped among the top ten as fifth on the normal hill and sixth on the large hill. In the team competition he was together with Piotr Żyła, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch world champion in front of the teams from Norway and Austria.
In February 2018, Kot took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and started in all three competitions. In the individual competitions he finished 19th on the normal hill and on the large hill . In the team competition on the large hill , he won the bronze medal behind the teams from Norway and Germany in third place together with Stefan Hula , Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch .
