Stefan Jarosław Hula (junior) (born September 29, 1986 in Bielsko-Biała ) is a Polish ski jumper . His greatest sporting successes to date are the bronze medals in team jumping at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and at the 2018 Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf .

Career

Hula made his debut on February 1st and 2nd, 2003 in Braunlage in the Continental Cup . At the Junior World Championships in 2004 in Stryn , Norway , Hula won the silver medal in the team competition with the Polish team. Hula made his debut in the team competition of the Ski Jumping World Cup in January 2005 in Willingen , where he finished tenth with the Polish team. In his first individual competition in the Ski Jumping World Cup on January 4, 2006 as part of the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen , he did not get past 47th place. A good three weeks later he was able to jump into the points in Zakopane as 22nd for the first time. At the ski flying world championship in 2006 at the Kulm in Tauplitz / Bad Mitterndorf he finished 37th in the individual and ninth place with the Polish team. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he achieved fifth place in the team competition when jumping from the large hill and 29th place in the individual competition on the normal hill.

At the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf in 2008 he finished tenth with the Polish team. On January 31, 2009, he achieved his first top ten placement in an individual World Cup competition in Sapporo when he finished tenth . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he finished 26th on the normal hill. In the team competition, he took fourth place with the Polish team. On March 21, 2009, he finished second with the team in Planica . For Hula it was the first podium finish in the World Cup. He won his first Continental Cup on September 3, 2009 at the summer jumping competition in Pyeongchang, Korea . At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , Hula retired in jumping on the normal hill, tied with Pascal Bodmer as 31st after the first round. In the individual on the large hill he reached the finals and took 19th place. He finished sixth with the Polish team. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2010 in Planica, he finished fourth with the Polish team.

His best result to date in an individual World Cup competition was achieved from the Gross-Titlis-Schanze in Engelberg on December 19, 2010 with a seventh place. At the end of January 2011, he was able to achieve another podium finish as third place in the team competition in Willingen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , he finished 33rd in the individual on the large hill. In the team competitions he and the Polish team took fourth place on the normal hill and fifth on the large hill.

On February 3, 2013, he celebrated his first Continental Cup victory on snow on the Bloudkova Velikanka in Planica , after taking second place behind the Austrian Stefan Kraft in the first competition on this hill on the same day .

At the 2016 Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm , Hula took 21st place in the individual competition and fifth place with the Polish team. On January 23, 2016, he reached third place in the World Cup team competition in Zakopane, his first podium finish since January 2011 and his third overall. On February 23, 2016, he improved his best individual World Cup placement with a sixth place in Kuopio . He finished the season 26th in the overall World Cup and thus for the first time among the top 30.

On December 26th, 2017 he won his first national championship title at the Polish Championships 2017 on the Adam-Małysz-Schanze in Wisła, ahead of Piotr Żyła and Kamil Stoch . In the 2017/18 World Cup season he improved his best individual World Cup placement twice. First he succeeded in this as fifth in Oberstdorf as part of the Four Hills Tournament 2017/18 and then fourth on January 28, 2018 in Zakopane. He also landed a total of four times on the podium in the World Cup with the Polish team. He also achieved his first World Cup victory in the team on January 27, 2018 in Zakopane. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf he finished 13th in the individual competition and won the bronze medal in the team competition together with Piotr Żyła, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch. In February 2018 he took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and competed in all three competitions. In the individual competition on the normal hill he was in the lead after the first round with 5.9 points ahead of his compatriot Kamil Stoch. In the final round, however, he fell back to fifth place and thus missed a medal. In the individual competition on the large hill , he took 15th place. In the team competition on the large hill , he won the bronze medal behind the teams from Norway and Germany in third place together with Maciej Kot , Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch. He finished the 2017/18 season with 431 points in 13th place in the overall World Cup and thus achieved his best career result.

At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he took fourth place in team jumping with the Polish men's team. He was twelfth in the individual jumping on the normal hill.

family

Hula is married and has two children. His father of the same name was a successful Nordic combined skier and won the bronze medal at the 1974 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . Hula currently lives in Szczyrk with his wife and children .
