Olav Hansson (born July 23, 1957 in Røa , Oslo ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Hansson, who started for the club Røa IL, jumped in the ski jumping world cup for the first time on December 30, 1981 . In the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1981/82 he ended up in 32nd place. Already in his second competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he managed to win the first World Cup points with 9th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1982 in his hometown Oslo , he was able to achieve 7th place on the normal hill. On the large hill, he won the silver medal behind Matti Nykänen . In team jumping he won the gold medal together with Johan Sætre , Per Bergerud and Ole Bremseth . After further good placements in the World Cup, including a 2nd place in Štrbské Pleso , he finished the World Cup season 1981/82 in 13th place in the overall standings.

At the Norwegian Championships in Raufoss in 1982 , Hansson won the bronze medal on the normal hill behind Roger Ruud and Ole Bremseth . On the large hill he won the silver medal behind Johan Sætre .

On December 18, 1982, he was able to jump onto the podium again with second place in Cortina d'Ampezzo , laying the foundation for his most successful World Cup season. He was also on the podium in Bischofshofen and Thunderbay . Before that he had jumped to 8th place in the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament 1982/83 . He also reached 2nd place in ski flying in Vikersund . He finished the season in March with 3rd and 4th place in the jumping in Planica . He finished the 1982/83 World Cup season in fourth place in the overall World Cup standings.

At the Norwegian Championships in 1983 in Lillehammer , he won the silver medal behind Per Bergerud on the normal and large hill .

After the season he took a break from international competitions for over a year and jumped back in the World Cup for the first time on December 30, 1984. The 1984/85 season did not start so well, however, and so he mostly only ended up in the lower ranks. Therefore he only took part in 5 out of 21 World Cup competitions. In the 1985/86 season Hansson came under the top twenty in all participations. He finished the Four Hills Tournament 1985/86 in 8th place overall. At the beginning of the 1986/87 season he jumped again to 2nd place in Chamonix . It was his last place on the podium and the last place in the top 10. At the end of the season he jumped again to 14th place on his home hill, the Holmenkollen in Oslo , and then ended his active career as a jumper. He had previously won the bronze medal on the normal hill at the Norwegian Championships in Kongsberg in 1987 .

With 11 podium finishes in the World Cup (plus 1 × in ski flying), Hansson is the jumper with the most top positions, who has never won a World Cup competition.
