Winifred Ray

Winifred Ray was a literary translator from German and French into English .

She provided the first English-language translations of important fiction works of her time such as Heinrich Mann's Die kleine Stadt and Karl Heinrich Waggerl's Bread , but also biographies such as Konrad Heiden's Hitler biography or the historical biography works of Werner Hegemann .

Ray was particularly active as a translator in the 1920s and 1930s and probably also worked on English text versions for early foreign sound films .
