Ernst Vettori (born June 25, 1964 in Hall in Tirol ) is a former Austrian ski jumper . He was Olympic champion and winner of the Four Hills Tournament, with the team also world champion.

Career

In 1982 the 18-year-old Ernst Vettori , who lives in Absam, became Junior World Champion. He was twice winner of the Four Hills Tournament (1985/86 and 1986/87) and Olympic champion in 1992 in ski jumping on the normal hill in Albertville . During his career as a top athlete, he was able to achieve 15 World Cup victories .

In addition, Vettori was world champion in the team competition with Heinz Kuttin , Andreas Felder and Stefan Horngacher at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Predazzo in 1991 . In the same year he was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal . At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , he won the silver medal in the team competition. At the Nordic World Ski Championships he won three more medals with the team (silver 1985 , bronze 1987 and bronze 1993 ) and a bronze medal on the large hill in 1987.

With 142 top ten placements at major ski jumping events from 1981 to 1994, he and his "twin" Andreas Felder continued the great successes of the Austrian ski jumping wonder team that Baldur Preiml had formed in the 1970s from the 1980s to well into the 1990s . Like Andreas Felder, Ernst Vettori also succeeded in switching from the classic style (parallel style) to the V style in the early 1990s. He has won victories in both styles.

From 1995 to 1999 Vettori was co-commentator at Dirk Thiele's side on ski jumping broadcasts on Eurosport , then he took up a position as Nordic Marketing Manager at the Austrian Ski Association .

In March 2010 it was announced that Vettori will succeed Toni Innauer on the post of ÖSV sports director. On April 3, 2018, Mario Stecher was introduced as the successor to Vettori.

Private

Ernst Vettori is married to the former Austrian ski racer and junior world champion Sieglinde Winkler and has two children: son Nils was a combined skier, daughter Marion is a jumping judge.
