The plastic covered hill in Gstaad , Switzerland, was a ski jump with a K point of 88 m.

history

Ski jumping events were held in and around Gstaad as early as 1910 . In 1916, the Gstaad Ski Club and the local tourist office - today “Gstaad Saanenland Tourism” - decided to build a new ski jump in the Matten am Eggli. The construction costs amounted to 46,250 Swiss francs , of which the municipality contributed around a quarter. In 1928 the “Great Ski Race in Switzerland” took place on the hill. In 1932 the ski jump was rebuilt for the first time. Between 1946 and 1966, the jumping hill for the Montgomery Cup took place every year, named after Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery , who liked to come to Saanenland on vacation .

In 1959 and 1966 the hill was rebuilt again. From 1967 Gstaad was part of the Swiss ski jumping tournament . The later K-point of 88 meters was only reached after a renovation in 1972. From 1980 to 1990 a total of six competitions in the Ski Jumping World Cup were held before the last major competition in 1992 ushered in the end of the hill. After the closure in 1992 because it no longer met the safety requirements of the International Ski Federation (FIS), plans were made in 2000 to build a new K20, K50 and K70 ski jump as a youth training center. However, these plans failed due to difficult topographical conditions.

In 2008 the remains of the old ski jump were torn down. Only part of the old take-off table can be seen today.
