The Gstaad Ski Club , not to be confused with the elite Eagle Ski Club (ESC) , is a Swiss sports club founded in 1907 that looks after the youngsters in national ski jumping and skiing . He maintains the cross-country , ski jumping and alpine skiing sections .

history

In connection with the rapidly growing interest in winter sports in Switzerland at the beginning of the 20th century, especially with the construction of the Montreux-Oberland-Bahn (1904/05) and the simultaneous expansion of overnight accommodation for tourists, on October 24, 1907 the Gstaad Ski Club founded. The names of all the founding members are not known, but they included Robert Steffen, Dr. Reber, Fritz Reichenbach and Robert Reichenbach. The first club president was Robert Steffen .

Club goals

On the website it says in general: "The aim (are) to convey the joy of skiing and ski jumping to the children and to maintain our tradition". In particular, the following can be mentioned:

  • Promotion and active support in maintaining and building new sports facilities according to the club profile. The ski future Saanenland project from 2013 is particularly noteworthy here . As a result, other winter sports such as snowboarding are to be added to the club program, a ski lift is to be built and the slopes are to be expanded.
  • Discovering and nurturing talented young people
  • Organization of the Sarina championships (Gstaad is in the municipality of Saanen )
  • Organization of children's and youth competitions
  • Sending club members to international championships
