Pavel Ploc (born June 15, 1964 in Jilemnice ) is a former Czech ski jumper and politician .

Career

He made his debut in the World Cup on March 12, 1982 in ski flying in Tauplitz , Austria ; he instantly reached twelfth place. On March 18, 1983 he was runner-up in the ski flying world championship in Harrachov , two months earlier, he won his first world cup competition on the large hill at the same location. He won a total of ten World Cup competitions in his career, most recently in 1990 in Sollefteå, Sweden . In the overall World Cup ranking, his best placings were second place in the 1987/88 season and third place in the winter of 1983/84 .

At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he won the bronze medal on the large hill, and he also won bronze with the team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Engelberg that same year . In 1985 he reached third place at the ski flying world championship in Planica . At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Canada , he won the silver medal behind Matti Nykänen on the normal hill . He won his last medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 . With the Czechoslovak team he won bronze in team jumping.

His last World Cup competition was on December 15, 1991 in Sapporo . He hadn't been able to successfully adapt to the emerging V style . Today Pavel Ploc runs a ski pension in Harrachov and is involved in politics. In the last Czech parliamentary elections he was elected a member of the ČSSD party.
