František Jež (born December 16, 1970 in Valašské Meziříčí ) is a former Czech ski jumper .

Career

Jež first took part in World Cup competitions in 1988. He was a member of the Czechoslovak team at the Four Hills Tournament . He was able to qualify for all four main competitions and reached the second round in Oberstdorf and Bischofshofen . At the Junior World Championship in 1988 in Saalfelden , Austria , he won the bronze medal with the Czechoslovak team.

1990 was the most successful season for Jež. He was able to win the final competition in Bischofshofen at the Four Hills Tournament and finished second in the overall standings behind Dieter Thoma and ahead of Jens Weißflog . This season he was able to celebrate three more World Cup victories. In the overall World Cup, he finished fifth.

Jež was only able to build on these achievements in 1992. After several placements among the top ten, he finished seventh in the overall World Cup and finished fifth in the Four Hills Tournament. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville Jež was able to fight for the bronze medal with the Czechoslovak team. The team was able to improve this result at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1993 . Behind Norway they won the silver medal.

After the V-style became more and more prevalent from 1992 onwards , Jež had great problems learning the new style and was never able to repeat the good performances from 1990 and 1992. It was often difficult for him to qualify for the main competition and often did not reach the second round. In December 1999 Jež took part in a World Cup competition for the last time. In Chamonix , France , he finished 44th.

After his active career as an athlete, František Jež works as a sports manager. Among other things, he works for the Four Hills Tournament winner and overall World Cup winner Jakub Janda .
