Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 1988

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 21st Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1988 took place from February 1st to 7th, 1988 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, Austria. They were held for the fourth time in Austria after 1970 ( Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee ), 1978 and 1982 (both Murau ).

The most successful nation in the title fights was the Soviet Union with four gold, two silver and one bronze medals, ahead of the GDR with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals and Austria with two gold and one bronze medals. While Austria won all medals in ski jumping, the GDR won all of its precious metal in cross-country skiing. The Soviet Union was also particularly successful in cross-country skiing, but was also able to win team bronze in Nordic combined.

Competition venues

The ski jumping competitions were held on the Bibergschanze built in 1986 . The cross-country competitions of the combiners and the specialists were held on trails in the area.
