Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 1990

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 23rd Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1990 took place from March 28 to April 1, 1990 in Štrbské Pleso in Czechoslovakia and Les Saisies in France. Czechoslovakia hosted this most important junior ski competition for the second time after 1976 ( Liberec ) and France for the third time after 1968 ( Prémanon ) and 1974 ( Autrans ). While the cross-country skiing competitions were held in Les Saises, the competitions in special jumping and Nordic combined took place in Štrbské Pleso.

The most successful nation of the competitions was the Soviet Union with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals, with the Eastern Europeans winning all of their medals at the cross-country skiing competitions in Les Saisies. The GDR (in cross-country skiing), Norway (in Nordic combined) and Austria (in special jumping) also won two gold medals each. However, these won fewer other medals than the Soviets.

Competition venues

The ski jumping competitions and the Nordic Combined jumping were held on the MS 1970 B, which was built for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 . The cross-country skiing competitions of the combiners took place on the trails in the area. In contrast, the cross-country skiing competitions of the specialists were held on trails in Les Saisies , France .
