Eide, who started for Snåsa IL, had his first international success at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1990 in Les Saisies . There he won the silver medal in the 30 km freestyle. In the following year he won the relay gold medal at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Reit im Winkl . He ran his first World Cup race in March 1992 in Vang , which he finished classically in 44th place over 50 km. In March 1993 he got his first World Cup points in Oslo with 19th place over 50 km classic and in early March 1994 in Lahti he achieved second place with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he finished 12th over 50 km freestyle. In the 1995/96 season he made 16 starts in the World Cup singles, 13 times in the points and six times in the top ten. He achieved his best individual placement in the World Cup with sixth place in the 30 km freestyle in Lahti. He also took third place in Lahti and second place in the relay in Oslo. He finished the season in 11th place in the overall World Cup. This was also his best overall result in the World Cup. After third places at the beginning of the 1996/97 season in Kiruna and Davos each with the relay, he reached 25th place in the overall World Cup with two top ten placements. He also won in Brusson with the relay. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1997 in Trondheim , he finished 26th in the 30 km freestyle.
In the 1997/98 season Eide came eight times in the points, including twice in the top ten and thus reached 18th place in the overall World Cup and 13th place in the Sprint World Cup. He also won in Beitostølen with the relay and took second place in Lahti with the relay. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , he ran in 11th place over 50 km freestyle. In the following years he only took part in a few World Cups. He completed his 55th and last individual World Cup start in March 2005 in Oslo , which he finished in 34th place in the 50 km classic. In 1998 he won the Norwegian championships over 10 km and 50 km.
