The 40th Nordic World Ski Championships were held from March 9th to 19th, 1995 in the Canadian city of Thunder Bay in the province of Ontario .
The most successful nation was Russia with five gold medals, which, however, was solely due to the cross-country skiers. Norway and Kazakhstan each won gold three times. Cross- country skier Larissa Lasutina won four gold medals for the Russian team, including the relay, Jelena Välbe was involved with two victories. In the men's category, Kazakh Vladimir Smirnov secured three world championship titles in cross-country skiing.
