Gerd Siegmund (born February 7, 1973 in Dresden ) is a former German ski jumper .
Career
In 1983 Siegmund made his debut as a ski jumper. His first club was Dynamo Sebnitz, where he learned ski jumping. He then attended the children's and youth sports school in Klingenthal , where he belonged to the SC Dynamo Klingenthal . After graduating from school, he became a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr and continued training in Oberhof after the fall of the Wall . He completed a total of 133 world cup competitions during his active career. He celebrated his greatest success in the World Cup in 1994 in Thunder Bay , Canada . Here he achieved the first and only World Cup victory of his career. Participation in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer was a special highlight in the Dresdner's career. In the individual competition on the normal hill he reached 11th place. In the team that could win the gold medal in the team competition, however, he was not positioned.
A year later, in 1995, he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay. Together with Jens Weißflog , Hansjörg Jäkle and Dieter Thoma , he won the silver medal in the team competition. In the individual competition on the large hill, he was also able to achieve 10th place. A few more years in the World Cup followed with ups and downs. 1998 Siegmund had to accept a bitter disappointment. Despite the established qualification standard, he was not taken to the Olympic Games in Nagano . Two years later he ended his career for good after struggling with knee problems.
After the end of his active career, Siegmund worked as a ski jumping expert for ARD . After his engagement ended, Siegmund switched to the television station Eurosport a little later . Here he stood by the commentator Dirk Thiele as a specialist in ski jumping broadcasts until 2016.
In addition, he is active as the sports manager of Richard Freitag and Andreas Wank and also exercised this function with Michael Uhrmann , Stephan Hocke and Jörg Ritzerfeld . He is also involved in the organization of World Cup competitions in Germany. In February 2007, for example, he played a major role in the success of the World Cup in Klingenthal, which served as a replacement for the snowless World Cup station in Harrachov. In Klingenthal he is now head of marketing.
Since the 2009/2010 season , he and Dirk Thiele have also been reporting on the men's ski jumping World Cup in a regular video blog on YouTube on a private initiative . Background information and interviews with athletes, trainers and officials are offered under the name skisprungtv . Since 2016 he has moderated the AVIA ski jumping talk with Dirk Thiele on the internet channels Facebook and Youtube.
On September 19, 2015, Gerd Siegmund was unanimously elected President of the Thuringian Ski Association's Xth Association Day, but only one year later he resigned.
Gerd Siegmund has been working as a ski jumping consultant at ZDF since the 2017/2018 winter season.
