At the end of the championships, Dieter Thoma again demonstrated the lack of breadth in German ski jumping and was German champions on the large hill with a large margin. Thoma was the only athlete who could jump both times over the construction point of 113 meters. The field was divided into an A and a B final, so that 19 jumpers competed for the title, while the remaining athletes were able to place themselves from 20th place.
