Hegenbarth started off the 1993/94 season in the Continental Cup (COC). In his first season he was able to collect a total of 98 points in this series and was in 78th place in the overall Continental Cup ranking. The two following seasons were less successful, so that he only landed 112 and 123 respectively in the overall standings. The 1996/97 season , however, was very successful. Due to the good performance in the Continental Cup, Hegenbarth started in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the first time in the Ski Jumping World Cup on January 1, 1997, and with 36th place narrowly missed the World Cup points. In February, however, he managed to win a total of nine World Cup points in ski flying on the Kulm with a 26th and a 27th place, which brought him 86th place overall at the end of the 1996/97 World Cup season . At the end of the season in the Continental Cup, he finished 11th overall with 426 points. The following two seasons he started exclusively in the Continental Cup, but could not build on his successes from 1996/97. After 33rd place in the overall ranking of the 1998/99 season, he ended his active ski jumping career.
Since the end of his active career, Hegenbarth has been working as a trainer in the youth field at various clubs in his native Saxony .
