In 1949 the FC Upland Willingen-Waldeck was founded, which was dissolved after a few years for financial reasons. Today's football department of SC Willingen was founded in January 1965. In the very first season, the Willinger kickers rose to the B-class and in 1973 they reached the district league. Seven years later, Wolfgang Paul was hired as a coach, who won the European Cup Winners' Cup with Borussia Dortmund in 1966 . In 1986 he was promoted to the Landesliga Nord . Supported by the Hotel Sauerlandstern , the SCW quickly established itself in this league. On the last match day of the 1990/91 season, the team secured promotion to the Hessian Oberliga with a 1-1 draw at TuSpo Ziegenhain .

There the team met well-known opponents such as Kickers Offenbach or KSV Hessen Kassel in the 1991/92 season . After the team remained without a win in the first half of the season, the team achieved seven more successes in the second half of the season, which was only enough for the penultimate place. The Willinger had to relegate and the local press accused the club management of megalomania . In 1995 he was promoted to the fourth-class league. The Willinger were third in their national league relay and won the relegation round against the other national league thirds as well as the third- bottom RSV Petersberg . Again the direct relegation followed after a season. With the 7-1 win over Progres Frankfurt , the SCW achieved the highest victory in its history in the 1995/96 season .

There followed two runner-up championships in the Landesliga Nord behind FV Steinau and SVA Bad Hersfeld . The Willinger failed, however, in the relegation games at VfR Bürstadt (1997) and SV Jügesheim (1998). Several years followed in the regional league, which has been called the Association League since 2008 . In 2009 the Willinger were relegated to the Kassel group league . After a runner-up behind the Melsunger FV 08 , the SCW failed in the relegation at VfL 1886 Kassel . A year later, the Willinger rose again as champions in the Association League North, which has been the sporting home of the team ever since.
