TuSpo Ziegenhain was a football club from Schwalmstadt in the Schwalm-Eder district . The first soccer team played for nine years in the then third-class Oberliga Hessen and once took part in the DFB Cup .

history

The association was created in 1951 through the merger of TV Ziegenhain, founded in 1886, with SV Rot-Weiß Ziegenhain . In 1970 the team was promoted to the Landesliga Hessen-Nord . Seven years later TuSpo was runner-up behind VfB Schrecksbach , before being promoted to the Oberliga Hessen two years later. After a ninth place in the promotion season, TuSpo reached fourth place in the 1980/81 season. Also in 1981 the team won after a 3: 0 victory over Viktoria Griesheim the Hesse Cup . In the first round of the DFB Cup, the Ziegenhainers lost 3: 5 at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen .

After the successful trainer Rolf Birkhölzer left the club for FSV Frankfurt , the Ziegenhainers slipped back into midfield of the table. In 1985, the team only managed to stay in the league after a 1-0 play-off win in neutral casting against RSV Würges . Three years later TuSpo finally got down from the Oberliga Hessen and also fought to stay in the league in the following state league years. In 1992 the team was relegated to the regional league and did not return until 2001.

On April 3, 2003 TuSpo merged with ESV Jahn Treysa to form 1. FC Schwalmstadt .
