Carolin Hennecke (born February 4, 1986 in Diemelsee-Stormbruch ) is a former German biathlete .

Career

Carolin Hennecke comes from the Hessian Upland . When she was still at elementary school, she joined the cross-country skiers at the Willingen ski club . After moving to the comprehensive school in Willingen , she learned about biathlon from Renate Schinze and Karl-Heinz Kesper and decided to switch when she was thirteen. Although she had to take a break for almost a year at the age of 15 because of back problems , the left-handed shooter made it to the top of the national league and was one of the greatest German hopes in biathlon in 2005, alongside Magdalena Neuner and Kathrin Hitzer . She was a member of the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Bischofswiesen and has lived in Ruhpolding since 2006 . In 2005 Hennecke made his debut in the European Junior Cup. She came second in an individual in Obertilliach , third in the sprint and won the pursuit. She has won three European Cup races so far, two of them relays. In 2006 she started at the European Junior Championships in Langdorf and won gold in the relay. She finished fifth in the persecution. In the same year she also appeared for the first time at the Junior World Championships in Presque Isle . Here she won bronze in the individual and gold in the sprint ahead of Magdalena Neuner. After a fourth place in the pursuit, she won gold again in the relay with Magdalena Neuner and Stephanie Müller . In 2007 she was second in the individual and won gold with the relay, this time with Franziska Hildebrand and Juliane Döll . In the IBU Cup 2008/2009 , Hennecke was regularly placed in the top. She won her first international women's medal at the 2009 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa as third place in the relay race with Tina Bachmann , Anne Preußler and Juliane Döll. In the sprint she reached 17th, in the pursuit 19th and in individual 25th place.

In her World Cup debut on December 9, 2011, Hennecke finished 25th in the sprint race in Hochfilzen after a faultless shooting performance and 26th in the pursuit the next day. Since Franziska Hildebrand and Sabrina Buchholz were preferred to her, Hennecke competed in the IBU Cup for the rest of the season . Due to illness in January, she skipped the Forni Avoltri and Haute Marienne competition sites and only took part in the races in Canada again. There she reached second place in the sprint in Canmore . With only nine participations, Hennecke took tenth place in the overall ranking. She received her first individual medal at the Biathlon European Championships in Osrblie. In the individual she won the bronze medal behind Anastasia Zagoruiko and Juliane Döll . Together with Döll, Nadine Horchler and Maren Hammerschmidt , she also won a bronze medal in the relay.

At the German Biathlon Championships in 2012 , Hennecke achieved second place in the sprint behind Tina Bachmann in Altenberg . In the pursuit that followed, she made a total of eight mistakes and fell back to 6th.

After the German Biathlon Championships in 2013 , Hennecke retired from competitive sports.
