Uwe Bellmann (born October 8, 1962 in Freiberg ) is a former German cross-country skier .

Uwe Bellmann grew up in Sayda in the Eastern Ore Mountains . He began his cross-country skiing career in the BSG unit Sayda , later he started for the SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal . Since the early 1980s he was internationally active for the GDR. He achieved his greatest international success at his first World Championships in 1982 , when he won the bronze medal at Holmenkollen in Oslo as the starting runner of the relay together with Uwe Wünsch , Stefan Schicker and Frank Schröder at the same time as the Finns behind the Soviet Union and the Norwegians at the same time. He was 20th over 30 kilometers in free style. In 1982 he also achieved his first top results in the cross-country skiing world cup , about a fifth place over 15 kilometers in Le Brassus . At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Bellmann remained without a medal, but still achieved good results with the ranks seven over 15 kilometers, ten over 30 kilometers and nine with the relay. He did not finish the race over 50 kilometers. The next major event was the 1985 World Championships in Seefeld with a 50th place over 50 kilometers classic for Bellmann. In 1987 Oberstdorf came 12th over the same distance but in free style. In 1988 Bellmann was again without a medal at the Winter Olympics in Calgary , but still achieved good results with the ranks five over 15 kilometers classic, eight over 50 kilometers freestyle and 25 over 30 kilometers classic. In the World Cup, too, he achieved third place in Ramsau am Dachstein over 15 kilometers of freestyle, his best result in this competition series. The Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 brought good results again with fifth place in the 30-kilometer pursuit and sixth place in the GDR relay.

After the turnaround , the appearances in the World Cup became less frequent and the results decreased on average. Nevertheless, Bellmann was still one of the top performers in the united German team in the 1990s. In Oberhof in 1993 and in Seefeld in 1995, he won the Continental Cup races over 15 kilometers in classic style. At the 1995 World Championships in Thunder Bay , he started in the classic style races and finished 12th over 30 kilometers and eleventh over 10 kilometers. He was also 48th in the 25-kilometer pursuit. In 1997 , Bellmann took part in his last World Championships in Trondheim , where he was 18th over 10 kilometers classic. He contested the last World Cup race in March 1998 in Oslo , the last international race as part of an FIS race in January 1999 in Ulrichen .

Bellmann also has notable successes nationally. At the GDR championships, he won the runner-up title for the first time over 15 kilometers in 1982 behind Frank Schröder. In 1983 and 1985 he finished third, in 1986 he won the title for the first time and defended it the following year. In 1989 he was also second again in freestyle behind Holger Bauroth . Over 30 kilometers he won the titles in 1983 and 1987, from 1984 to 1986 he was second three times in a row. Also over 50 kilometers, Bellmann won the silver medal in 1983 with silver behind Karsten Brandt and won this medal again on this route in 1986. With the Tractor Oberwiesenthal relay , Bellmann was second in 1982, champion in 1983, third in 1984, champion again in 1985, second again in 1987 champion for the third time and again runner-up at the last GDR championships in 1989. After reunification, Bellmann came third behind Andreas Schlütter and René Sommerfeldt over 10 kilometers in 1998 . Bellmann won the title three times in a row from 1992 to 1994 with the Bavarian Association relay, and in 1995 he was third with Bavaria’s second season. In 1998 he won the title again and finished second with Bayern II in 1999. With the club relay of the SC Monte Kaolino Hirschau , to which he switched after the reunification, he won four titles in a row from 1992 to 1995, in 1998 he finished second.

After his active sports career, Bellmann became a technician at the German Ski Association in 2010 and was chief technician for a long time. In the spring of 2012, he ended his position as chief technician.
