Career

Behle became known in Germany when, in 1980, as a young man, he led the Olympic 15 km cross-country skiing in Lake Placid, long after the first interim period, but was not shown in the picture, and the ZDF reporter Bruno Moravetz did this with the repeatedly uttered saying "Where's Behle?" Commented.

Behle participated in the 1980 , 1984 , 1988 , 1992 , 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics. He achieved his best placings in 1994 in Lillehammer with 11th place over 10 km classic and fourth place with the relay. He also started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1982 , 1985 , 1987 , 1989 , 1991 , 1993 , 1995 and 1997 . In 1993 in Falun the fifth place over 10 km was classic and his best result with the relay. He took third place four times in the World Cup. He completed his best World Cup season in 1989/90. In Calgary he clinched his only classic World Cup victory over 50 km and at the end of the season he finished fourth in the overall World Cup. With the Winterberg cross-country skiing expert Fritz Becker , he formed an independent training group for ten years alongside the national team, to which other top athletes such as Johann Mühlegg joined over the years . In the same year he was the flag bearer of the German delegation at the opening of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . While still active, he married the biathlete Petra Schaaf . In 1999 the couple separated again. He was also 11 times German champion over 20 km (1978, 1982–1984, 1986–1990, 1994, 1997), six times over 30 km (1987–1991, 1996) and 50 km (1981, 1982, 1984–1986) , 1988) and once over 10 km (1991).

From 2002 to March 2012, Behle was a trainer for German cross-country skiers. Under him, German cross-country skiing had its most successful time ever. His protégés René Sommerfeldt in 2004, Axel Teichmann in 2005 and Tobias Angerer won the overall World Cup in cross-country skiing in 2006 and 2007.

The German cross-country skiing team he trained was successful at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Tobias Angerer won the silver medal in the double pursuit over 2 × 15 km on February 20, 2010. Axel Teichmann and Tim Tscharnke also won a silver medal in the team sprint on February 22, 2010.
