Urban Hettich (born March 2, 1953 in Schonach in the Black Forest ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete and trainer.
Hettich had been a sports soldier in the ski train of the training company 7/10 of the 10th Panzer Division in Todtnau -Fahl since 1972 , and Ralph Pöhland was the trainer of the ski train at the time . In 1973 he was promoted to NCO . His first big success was the bronze medal at the Junior World Championship in 1973 in Kawgolowo ( Soviet Union ).
He took part in 3 Winter Olympics from 1972 to 1980. In 1972 in Sapporo he took 20th place in his discipline and also started in the 4 × 10 km cross-country skiing relay, which took 7th place. As the highlight of his career, he won the silver medal in Nordic combined at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck behind Ulrich Wehling . In 1980 he was 14 again in Lake Placid .
For winning the silver medal, he received the silver laurel leaf on October 13, 1976 .
At the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid , he was the flag bearer of the German Olympic team.
After his active career, he became a trainer and looked after, among other things, the Canadian Nordic combined athletes and the cross-country skiers from Spain. He was the first trainer at the ski boarding school in Furtwangen after it was founded in 1984. In the 2005/2006 season he was the trainer of the Swiss Nordic Combined.
Urban Hettich is not related to the 2006 Olympic champion Georg Hettich , but both come from Schonach.
