Georg Hettich (born October 12, 1978 in Furtwangen ) is a former German Nordic combined and Olympic champion.
Career
During his active career, Hettich started for the Schonach-Rohrhardsberg ski team in his home town of Schonach in the Black Forest . He graduated from the ski boarding school in Furtwangen and then studied medical engineering at the Furtwangen University branch in Villingen-Schwenningen . He then did his doctorate in the field of sports motor skills at the Institute for Sports and Sports Science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg with a thesis on balance control. Today he works for the prosthesis manufacturer Aesculap. He lives in Freiburg with his wife Birgit and two sons.
At the Junior World Championship in 1997 in Calgary Georg Hettich won silver with the team as well as the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme , at the 2005 World Championships in Oberstdorf and at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , respectively a silver medal with the team.
Georg Hettich won the gold medal in the individual at the Winter Universiade 2005.
At the 2006 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal in the individual competition (Gundersen K90 / 15 km) in Turin and thus celebrated the greatest success of his sporting career. He also won the silver medal in the team competition with Björn Kircheisen , Ronny Ackermann and Jens Gaiser and won the bronze medal in the sprint.
For this sporting success he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on April 26, 2006.
In the years that followed, he couldn't get to this shape. He was absent from the 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec and only traveled to Vancouver as a substitute for the 2010 Winter Olympics .
After the 2009/10 World Cup season , Georg Hettich ended his career. His last World Cup competition was on March 14, 2010 in Oslo .
Georg Hettich was elected a member of the 14th Federal Assembly on the proposal of the CDU parliamentary group in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament .
