Tormod Kåre Knutsen (born January 7, 1932 in Eidsvoll ) is a former Norwegian Nordic combined .

Career

Knutsen achieved his first successes on a national level. So he won bronze in the singles at the Norwegian Championships in Trysil in 1955 behind Sverre Stenersen and Gunder Gundersen . The following year at the Norwegian Championships in Drammen in 1956 , he improved to silver.

In 1958 Knutsen won the combined competition at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the following Norwegian Championships in 1959 in Porsgrunn and the Norwegian Championships in 1960 in Mjøndalen , he won the title twice in a row.

At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he won the silver medal behind the German Georg Thoma . Two years later he narrowly missed the medal ranks at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1962 in Zakopane, Poland, with fourth place. At the Norwegian Championships in Kristiansand in 1963 and the Norwegian Championships in Voss in 1964 , he again won the national title twice in a row.

At the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he finally won the gold medal in Nordic combined shortly before the end of his career .

Awards

In 1960 Knutsen was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal . A small exhibition panorama in the city library of Eidsvoll has been devoted to Knutsen's successes since 2009. In 2010 he became an honorary citizen of Eidsvoll.
