Oddbjørn Hagen (born February 3, 1908 in Ytre Rendal , Hedmark ; † June 25, 1983 in Skedsmo ) was a Norwegian skier who was internationally successful in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined .

Career

Hagen, who started for the clubs Bækkelagets SK and Ytre Rendal IL , began his sports career as a ski jumper and won the regional youth championship at the age of 15. In 1931 he moved with his family to Oslo , where he began mainly with training in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined. Only a year later he won the Nordic Combined competition at Holmenkollen, ahead of the Olympic champion Johan Grøttumsbråten . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sollefteå in 1934 , he achieved sixth place as the best Norwegian in individual cross-country skiing over 18 km before winning the world title in the Nordic combined. A year later he repeated this success at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1935 in Vysoké Tatry . He also won silver there in cross-country skiing. In 1935 and 1936 he became Norwegian champion in cross-country skiing over 30 km.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 , he won the gold medal in the Nordic Combined and was also world champion again. He also won silver in cross-country skiing over 18 kilometers and with the Norwegian 4x10 km relay, which also included Sverre Brodahl , Olaf Hoffsbakken and Bjarne Iversen . The relay competition was held for the first time at the Olympic Games. After the games he won the 18 km race on Holmenkollen and was second in the individual combination behind Olaf Hoffsbakken. It was his last international success.

In his entire career, Hagen won the Kongsberg Cup five times.

Awards

As early as 1934 he received the Holmenkollen Medal for his successes .
