Sigurd Røen (born February 12, 1909 in Rindal ; † September 17, 1992 ) was a Norwegian skier . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Chamonix in 1937 , he was world champion in the Nordic combined and cross-country relay.

Career

Røen celebrated his first success with the victory in the combined at the Lahti Ski Games in 1934, before he finished fifth in the Nordic Combined individual at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1935 in Vysoké Tatry a year later . A few weeks later he won silver in the individual combination behind Olav Lian at the Norwegian Nordic Ski Championships in Molde in 1935 .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Chamonix in 1937 , Røen won the individual Nordic Combined competition. He also won another title with the cross-country skiing relay, which also included Annar Ryen , Oskar Fredriksen and Lars Bergendahl . At the Lahti Ski Games in 1937, he again won the combination competition. He also won bronze at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival .

At the Norwegian Nordic Ski Championships in 1938 in Mo i Rana , he won silver in cross-country skiing over 30 km and bronze in the individual combination.

A statue in honor of Røen was inaugurated in 1991 in his hometown of Rindal . His eldest brother John Røen represented Norway in cross-country skiing at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz .
