Harald Grønningen (born October 9, 1934 in Lensvik , † August 26, 2016 in Lensvik) was a Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Grønningen won 21st place over 15 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1958 . At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he won the silver medal with the relay. He also came in 14th place over 50 km and 11th place over 15 km. In March 1960 he won the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km. In 1960 and 1961 he won the 15 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival . In March 1961 he triumphed again at the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km and also took third place over 50 km. In the same year he received the Holmenkollen Medal and was named Norway's Sportsman of the Year . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , he won the silver medal over 15 km. He was also there fifth over 50 km and fourth over 30 km and with the relay. In March 1962, he won the 15-km run at the Lahti Ski Games for the third time in a row and came second in the 50-km run.

In 1963 and 1964 Grønningen was second with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen . At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , he won the silver medal over 15 km and over 30 km. He also achieved sixth place over 50 km and fourth place with the relay. In February 1966 he won the gold medal with the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo . He was also seventh there over 30 km and 50 km. At the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun in 1967 he finished second over 30 km and first place with the relay. When he last participated in the Olympics in February 1968 in Grenoble , he achieved over 15 km and the gold medal with the relay. He also came in 13th place over 30 km. In 1968 and 1969 he won the Svenska Skidspelen as in the previous year with the relay and reached third place in 1970 with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Vysoké Tatry , he achieved ninth place over 15 km and fourth place with the relay. At Norwegian championships he won four times over 30 km (1962, 1963, 1967, 1968), three times over 50 km (1961-1963) and twice over 15 km (1959, 1967).
