Gjermund Eggen (born June 5, 1941 in Engerdal ; † May 6, 2019 ) was a Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Eggen, who started for Engerdal SK , won third place at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km in 1964 . In 1966 he took third place over 30 km and first place with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , he was the outstanding cross-country skier, when he became world champion both over 15 km and over 50 km. He won a third gold medal with the Norwegian relay. In the 30 km race he finished 16th. In the same year he won the election for Norway's Sportsman of the Year and was also awarded the Morgenbladet gold medal. In the following year he won the Svenska Skidspelen as in the previous year with the relay and finished second at the Lahti Ski Games behind Assar Rönnlund over 15 km. In his only Olympic participation in February 1968 in Grenoble , he achieved 34th place over 30 km. In the same year he triumphed in the Svenska Skidspelen over 30 km and with the relay. He also came third at the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km and at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km. Also in 1968 he was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal . In 1969 he won the Svenska Skidspelen again with the relay. At the beginning of March 1969 he took third place over 50 km and first place over 15 km at the Lahti Ski Games. At Norwegian championships he won twice over 30 km (1964, 1966), once over 50 km (1966) and once with the relay of Engerdal SK together with Johs Harviken and his twin brother Jo (1966).
