potts park is a leisure and adventure park in the Dützen district of the city of Minden , North Rhine-Westphalia .

The park lies at the foot of the north side of the Wiehengebirge and was founded in 1969 by Karl Heinrich Pott on the 15 hectare former colliery area of ​​the old Porta iron ore mine . The family business is now managed by Henrik Pott and employs 30 to 40 people depending on the number of visitors. With around 250,000 visitors a year, it is one of the smaller amusement parks in Germany.

The operator, Heinrich Pott GmbH & Co. KG, deliberately does not rely on spectacular, fast-paced rides , but wants to differentiate itself from the big players in the industry through originality, family-friendliness and hands-on activities. Unlike in most amusement parks, visitors in potts park have to move many rides with their own muscle power. Most of the attractions in potts park are suitable for children from 2 years of age. The main target group of the park are families with children up to the age of 11 and school classes of the lower ages from the region.

Potts park was founded as a pure traffic theme park, in which the most important modes of transport of the 20th century were presented. In terms of content, at that time it was primarily aimed at adults. But because most of the visitors also brought their children with them, a play world for the children was created next to the theme park, which was gradually expanded and replaced some of the traffic exhibits.

Rides and attractions

A pig race is held at the Swinsgallop . As with many other rides, you have to rely on yourself here too. Skill and a sense of balance are required when riding the wobbly bikes . The vehicle of the Moor vat ride are the mud baths of domestic Bauer bathrooms modeled.

In the huge apartment, a 3-room apartment on 500 m², all furnishings are twice as large as usual. Adults can experience the home environment from the perspective of a two-year-old child.

The toilet house Up'n Pott is not only worth a visit for compelling reasons. It is also equipped with various images and themed objects.

Suspended coaster

In 2009, the prototype of the Suspended Dynamic Flyerride from the Swiss company ABC Rides named Turbo-Drachen was presented as a novelty . It is a kind of suspended coaster with drive and single gondolas for a maximum of three people. The speed can be influenced by the users themselves. The gondolas swing out to the side by up to 65 °.

The family roller coaster potts Blitz, a Force Two from the manufacturer Zierer , has been installed in the park since 1993 . In 2002, two butterfly-type aerial tramways were demolished by Heege for the new construction of the children's area. At the beginning of the 2017 season, the mini roller coaster "Kiddy Racer" was introduced, which is suitable for children from a height of 90 cm. This is controlled by an adult accompanying person outside the facility.

museum

In summer 2005 the "Terra phenomenalis" - an interactive museum - was opened in potts park Minden. It has optical illusions and physical surprises in store on a hall area of ​​approx. 1,700 m² . In addition to the area mentioned, there are exhibits in the outdoor area (e.g. pump wells in the water garden). The huge apartment (500 m²) is also an optical phenomenon.

The farmhouse museum “Potts Willem” is also located on the site. A Westphalian peasant family around the turn of the century 1890–1900 is shown here.
