The Sea Life Adventure Park (own spelling SEA LIFE Adventure Park ) was an amusement park of the Merlin Entertainments Group in Oberhausen . He combined a classic Sea Life Center with an outdoor area with rides. The park, which opened in 1996 under the name CentrO.PARK , was bought up in 2011 and reopened under a new name in 2013.

history

The park was built under the name CentrO.PARK as part of the “Neue Mitte” project on a fallow industrial site and opened in 1996 by the Centro operating company.

Oscar Bruch jr., A son of the showman family break, took over the park in 2001. The original, 8.5-hectare park walkers was moderately expanded, the natural character of the park retained.

In 2002 the park was expanded by 5 hectares for the first time. The first attraction on the new area was the play tent. From 2003 Benjamin Blümchen could be met “personally” in the Centro-Park. The park received a new entrance in 2005 at a more exposed location opposite the Coca-Cola oasis of the neighboring CentrO shopping center . A chain carousel was set up as an additional ride .

The "pirate fleet" was inaugurated in 2006. These were self-steering boats with three water cannons on board, which had to be driven through a course, with the visitors being able to shoot each other with water cannons. The most recent addition was the old-timer train in 2007.

The millionth visitor to the park was counted on September 23, 2006.

On March 23, 2010, Oscar Bruch Jr. resigned. in a press release to concentrate on its core business with mobile leisure facilities at the end of the 2010 season and to end its commitment in Oberhausen. For a continuation of the business, large investments and thus a long-term commitment to the park were necessary, the park manager explained his decision. After ten years under the direction of Oscar Bruch, Centro-Park entered its final season. At the same time, a larger play tent, a nature trail and various events were announced for the year.

After most of the rides were dismantled after the end of the 2010 season, the Merlin Entertainments Group announced in April 2011 that it would reopen the park on April 16, 2011 under new management with initially seven attractions. This then happened, but only with five attractions.

The park was closed in the 2012 season until it reopened in the spring of 2013 under the name Sea Life Adventure Park . It was only possible to purchase a joint ticket with the neighboring Sea Life Center . The new main attraction was the Penguins! Antarctica Adventure inaugurated. It is a log flume from ABC Rides , the visitors through an enclosure with gentoo penguins leads. At the same time, Merlin Entertainments opened a new LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the immediate vicinity .

In 2014 three new attractions were opened, including the mini free-fall towers "Hip" and "Hop". A Viking ship (MS Seegang) and a water playground were also opened. At the same time, separate tickets were sold again for the park. After the park was regularly closed in winter 2015/16, it was not reopened for the 2016 season. At the end of March 2016, the corresponding website also went offline, with a reference to the fact that this page no longer exists. The park should first reopen in May 2016 with free access. However, all attractions should be dismantled with the exception of the penguin enclosure and the smaller playgrounds.

However, this did not happen. In the meantime there were plans to build two American mini golf courses in spring 2017 . But this was not implemented either. Instead, the donkey penguins were moved to a new enclosure in Paris in early 2017.

In the summer of 2018 it became known that the contract with Merlin Entertainments was to be terminated and that CentrO would take responsibility for the site again. Concrete plans for subsequent use are not yet available. However, the park has been completely cordoned off since 2019. In spring 2018 all attractions except the tractor train were dismantled. Their whereabouts are unknown. The Jeep Safari of the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen is the former facility of Merlin Entertainment from Oberhausen. This was reopened in 2018 in Serengeti Park near the former Graetz 'Oldtimer Garage, but was then implemented and has been near the Aqua Safari and the Kumba Twister since the 2019 season. The red park train (ex Heide-Park) was sold with the identical blue train from the Heide-Park to the Europa-Park as a replacement for the two trains destroyed in the major fire. The rest was sold to the distributor Used amusent rides Apeldoorn. This also advertises the former CentrO in its references. Park. Most recently, MS Seegang and the wild water slide were up for sale. In the meantime (as of June 2020) only the wild water run is offered by this.

From November 27, 2018 to February 12, 2019, the "Game of Thrones Exhibition" was exhibited in a large tent on the area of the former white water rink. From October 2019 to January 2020, a 55 meter high Ferris wheel was operated by the showman Oscar Bruch Jr. in the same area.
