The Safariland Stukenbrock (until early 2019: Zoo Safari Park Stukenbrock , before to April 2011: Hollywood and Safari Park Stukenbrock ) is a theme park in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock , Gütersloh , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). It is operated by Senne Großwild Safariland GmbH & Co KG .

history

Safariland, in which numerous exotic animals are the actual "attractions", was opened on July 15, 1969. In addition, an amusement park with rides was set up, including Europe's first swinging boat and the 350 m long Flying Tiger roller coaster . In the amusement park, the safari theme can largely be found again. The new attractions planned for 2019, an indoor playground and a resort where you can stay overnight, are thematically based on the safari concept. At peak times, up to 250 people are employed. The park celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019. Fritz Wurms was the managing director of Safariland until his death in January 2019. Even before his death, he set the course for a communicative realignment and for new attractions in the park.

The safari area

In the “safari area” there are animal open-air enclosures with old trees, which offer the animals a living space that is as appropriate to the species as possible and the visitors the opportunity to experience animals in the “ wild ” from the car . For this purpose, asphalt roads have been laid out so that visitors can see as many animals as possible while driving. The "safari area" is divided into different areas, which are separated by security gates. Each area is monitored by zookeepers who sit in barred cars.

cooperation

In 1996 the Hollywood and Safaripark in Stukenbrock entered into a partnership with Siegfried and Roy . After the tragic accident, Safariland took over the white tigers and lions in the park. They managed to breed and raise white tigers and lions.

According to a report by the news magazine Focus in 2007, animal rights activists complained about the sale of 29 Bengal tigers from the Stukenbrock safari country to China , where big cats are industrially processed into sexual enhancers .

In August 2015, the RTL program Team Wallraff reported in an undercover report that, according to research, the animals in the Stukenbrock Safariland could not move freely in the outdoor enclosure. When they left the place where the park visitors could see them particularly well, staff drove them back to the part of the park that was intended for them with cars and whips. For their 6-day week, the park employees received € 1,100 gross per month. They lived in the park area and paid 150 euros per month for the rooms.
