Antonio Zamperla SpA is an Italian design and manufacturing company founded back in 1966. Zamperla is known worldwide for its family carousels, thrill rides and roller coasters. The company also produces small coin operated rides for children, such as those often found in shopping malls.

history

The history of Antonio Zamperla SpA is linked to a centuries-old family tradition, which began at the beginning of the 20th century with a traveling circus and finally succeeded in the artisanal production of amusement rides through the establishment and operation of one of the first traveling cinemas in Italy in the 1960s. Zamperla's entrepreneurial adventure began in the years when Antonio Zamperla, founder of Antonio Zamperla SpA, realized that popular attractions for adults could also be successfully adapted for children, as was the case with the boxing cars for children, then called mini-scooters and real novelties for the amusement industry of that time, namely go-karts, pungiballs, miniavios, convoys, balloon races and other rides that are now classics.

In 1976 Zamperla traveled to the New World and first settled in Montreal before moving to New Jersey, where Alberto Zamperla, Antonio's son and current president of the company, had opened a sales office and spare parts warehouse, which still has around 20 employees today represents a valuable interface between the design and production plant in Vicenza and the demanding American market.

In 1979 Zamperla was transformed into a limited liability company, which, thanks to a 2,000 m² production unit and 50 employees, was now able to concentrate intensively on research and innovation with regard to production and product quality. This ultimately led the company to its current 9,600 m², 150 direct employees and activities that include an additional workforce of around 200 people. Since then, the company has grown steadily: in 1988 it became a corporation, and in those years Zamperla also accepted the technical and productive challenge of Walt Disney for its Paris amusement park, for which Zamperla supplied seven of the initial twelve attractions.

Zamperla also builds roller coasters such as the Dragon Coaster, Mini Mouse, Zig Zag and Volare. In 2006 Zamperla presented the Motocoaster, a themed roller coaster with motorcycles. Zamperla (together with S & C and S & MC) obtained rights to some SDC rides after the company went bankrupt in 1993.

The memory of the acquisition of the Euro Disney contract is still associated with emotion and pride. It was a real milestone in the development of the Vicenza company, which with its current turnover of around 50 million euros and an export quota of 95% is a prime example of the world of amusement parks. It also has a client list of the most famous names in the entertainment industry, from Disney and MCA Universal Studios to Warner Bros., Six Flags, Paramount and many more.

In 2005, Antonio Zamperla, the company's founder, became the first Italian to join the ranks of the IAAPA Hall of Fame alongside other pioneers such as Walt Disney, George Ferris and Walter Knott, due to his significant contribution to the entire industry.

Unlike companies like Intamin, Vekoma, or Bolliger & Mabillard, who specialize in larger and faster roller coasters, Zamperla focuses more on family-friendly roller coasters that are mass-produced and easily loaded and transported to different locations. In addition, Zamperla is one of the largest manufacturers of carousels, with names such as: Balloon Race, Bumper cars, Disk'O, Ferris wheel, Water Flume Ride, Galleon / Swinging Ship, Sky Drop, Discovery, Windshear, Tornado, Energy Storm, Z- Force, Mixer, Rotoshake, Turbo Force, Power Surge, and Mini Jet.

structure

The company is divided into different areas, namely the creative department, which deals with the study and creation of the different themes of the attractions, the technical department, which is responsible for drawing up the relevant projects, and the production department, which takes care of the implementation , the sales department for distribution, customer care and finally park planning, which operates in the field of designing and developing complete amusement parks. Antonio Zamperla SpA sees itself as a “One Stop One Shop” and as such can offer its customers a complete range of attractions, from small children's carousels to the most extreme roller coasters.

Projects

Coney Island

Antonio Zamperla SpA was chosen in 2010 by the CAI (Central Amusement International) to renovate and requalify the amusement park of Coney Island. So the company took over the New Yorker Park and equipped it exclusively with Zamperla attractions, so that it has become the most important test bench for the company for the introduction of new attractions on the market.

Victorian Gardens

In 2003, Zamperla made possible the vision of the Trump Organization, for which part of Central Park is seasonally transformed into a traditional amusement park, in which attractions such as the "Family Swinger", "Samba Balloon", "Aeromax", "Convoy" , "Rocking Tug", "Kite Flyer" are operated.

Kalkar wonderland

Another well-known Zamperla project is located in Kalkar, north of Düsseldorf, on the 19 hectare site of a nuclear power plant that has never been commissioned and has been converted into the " Wunderland Kalkar " amusement park .
