AS Samuel

AS Samuel (born August 22, 1906 in Kuala Lumpur ; † 20th or 21st century ) was a Malaysian badminton player from Selangor . The footballer AL Henry is his brother.

Career

AS Samuel won the men's singles and men's doubles titles in the first edition of the Malaysia Open in 1937 . In 1939 he traveled to competitions through Europe and won the French Open and the Irish Open there . In the prestigious All England he had the eventual winner Madsen in the semifinals on the verge of defeat, when he was already 10-1 in the decisive third set. However, Madsen was able to fight his way back into the game and won with 7-15, 15-9, 15-11. In 1940 Samuel married the badminton player Cecilia Chan . He survived World War II unscathed and in 1947 won the open Indian championships in men's doubles with Chan Kon Leong .
