Selangor ( Jawi :سلاڠور, Pronunciation: [ˈselaŋor] ) is a Malaysian state. The capital and seat of the Sultan is Shah Alam . Port Klang is Malaysia's largest overseas port .
geography
The state, located on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula , surrounds the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya and has an area of 8,159 km² . In the west it borders on the Strait of Malacca and in the east on the mainland from north to south Perak , Pahang and Negeri Sembilan .
history
Like the surrounding states, Selangor was a vassal state of the respective ruling empires, such as Srivijaya and later Majapahit . After the conquest of the Sultanate of Malacca in 1511, he was by those in power Riau and Johors dominated. The Federated Malay States formed Selangor and three other Malay states in 1896.
