Putrajaya (Jawi:ڤوتراجاي) is a planned city in Malaysia founded in 1995 . It serves as the new administrative center of the Federation . The place is about 25 kilometers south of the capital Kuala Lumpur on the Malaysian peninsula and belongs to the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) special economic zone . Along with Kuala Lumpur and Labuan , Putrajaya is one of the federal territories of Malaysia.

Foundation as the new seat of government

In the 1990s, the Malaysian federal government acquired the Prang Besar area from the state of Selangor to build the new city there. The place got its name from the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra . The jaya in the name means “success” or “perfection”. According to the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad , one of the reasons Putrajaya was founded was to give Malaysia an "administrative capital" built by Malays, while the "commercial capital" Kuala Lumpur was a British city.

The urban landscape is determined by man-made lakes and extensive green areas as well as prime examples of Islamic-Malaysian architecture.

Not far is Cyberjaya , a cyber city , also in the Multimedia Super Corridor.

transport

Originally, the plan closed the city one of the KL Monorail resembling monorail one. Due to the fact that the planned number of inhabitants was far from being reached, the project was put on hold for the time being. Only the monorail station that has already started at the city's train station is evidence of this project.

Putrajaya has a station connected to the KLIA Transit , which has been connecting Kuala Lumpur with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang since 2002 .
