Malacca ( Malay : Melaka ; Jawi :ملاك, Pronunciation: [məˈlaka] ) is the third smallest state in Malaysia . The capital of Malacca is the city of the same name, Malacca .
Location and geography
The state of Malacca takes up about 1.3% of the total area of Malaysia.
It is located on the southwest coast of the Malay Peninsula on the Strait of Malacca , around 150 km southeast of Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur and about halfway between Kuala Lumpur and the city-state of Singapore . Malacca borders the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the east .
The state also includes the island of Pulau Besar off the coast , which is about ten kilometers southeast of the capital Malacca and about four kilometers from the mainland.
Administrative division
Administratively, Malacca is divided into three districts. The capital Malacca is located in the Melaka Tengah district .
