Malacca ( Malay : Melaka ; Jawi :ملاك, Pronunciation: [məˈlaka] ) is the third smallest state in Malaysia . The capital of Malacca is the city of the same name, Malacca .

The state of Malacca takes up about 1.3% of the total area of ​​Malaysia.

It is located on the southwest coast of the Malay Peninsula on the Strait of Malacca , around 150 km southeast of Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur and about halfway between Kuala Lumpur and the city-state of Singapore . Malacca borders the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the east .

The state also includes the island of Pulau Besar off the coast , which is about ten kilometers southeast of the capital Malacca and about four kilometers from the mainland.
