Pahang ( Jawi :ڤهڠ, Pronunciation: [paˈhaŋ] ) is a sultanate and state of Malaysia . The capital of Pahang is the city of Kuantan . The seat of the Sultan is the city of Pekan .
Location and geography
Of the Malaysian states located on the Malay Peninsula , Pahang is the largest in terms of area.
Its east coast is on the South China Sea . In the south it borders on the state of Johor , in the southwest on Negeri Sembilan and Selangor , in the west on Perak , in the north on Kelantan and in the northeast on Terengganu .
From a topographical point of view, Pahang can be divided into the three regions coastal area , rainforest and highlands . The Taman Negara National Park is located in the rainforest . With several two thousand meter peaks , the Cameron Highlands are the highest peaks in the region.
history
Pahang came under the control of the Sultanate of Aceh in the 17th century . But it came under the control of the Lingga Sultanate as early as the 18th century . In the 18th and 19th centuries, Pahang was a state that was dependent on the Linnga Sultanate. In 1887 the British influence made itself felt. The governor of Lingga in Pahang declared himself sultan and separated from Lingga. In 1888 the British declared Pahang a protectorate .
In 1895 Perak, Pahang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan were combined to form the Federated Malay States , an association that lasted until 1941.
The Japanese occupation began in the war year 1941, which only ended with the end of World War II and the withdrawal of the Japanese in 1945.
On April 1, 1946, the Malay Union was constituted by the merger of the Malay sultanates and the British crown colonies.
Administrative division
Administratively, Pahang is divided into eleven districts. The capital Kuantan is located in the Kuantan district of the same name .
