The Cameron Highlands (CH) are located in the Malaysian Sultanate of Pahang , east of the city of Ipoh and form a separate administrative district with the capital Tanah Rata . The area was named after William Cameron, a surveyor for the British colonial government, who discovered it in 1885 during a mapping expedition.
geography
The Cameron Highlands are part of the mountain range that runs through the Malaysian peninsula in a north-south direction. They are 200 km from the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur , and can be reached in just under 3.5 hours by car. All places of the Cameron Highlands are on a single road, the most important place of which is Tanah Rata.
climate
The Cameron Highlands are a popular short trip destination for both tourists and locals. Due to their altitude (around 1,500 m), they offer a pleasantly cool climate for tropical conditions. Temperatures reach 25 degrees during the day, but temperatures drop to 10 to 15 degrees at night. Therefore, the Cameron Highlands were already a popular destination for the British in colonial times, so the Cameron Highlands have several traditional Tudor-style guest houses and a well-tended golf course.

economy
In addition to tourism, which is one of the most important sources of income, the area is of great agricultural importance. Due to the relatively cool weather, different plants thrive in the Cameron Highlands than in the Malaysian plains. In addition to strawberries, (green) asparagus, other leafy vegetables and roses, tea is mainly grown.
