Abdullah Shah (2019)

Abdullah Shah , full name Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah (born July 30, 1959 in Pekan , Malaysia ), has been ruler of the Sultanate of Pahang since January 15, 2019 and since January 31, 2019 as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong King of Malaysia.

Origin and youth

Abdullah was born as the eldest son of Ahmad Shah , who later became the Sultan of Pahang . He received his school education in Kuantan and then in Great Britain. His father became Sultan in 1974 and Abdullah the following year Tengku Makhota , d. H. appointed hereditary prince. While his father was the Malaysian king from 1979 to 1984, Abdullah was the ruler of the sultanate.

Succession to the throne in Pahang and King of Malaysia

The Malaysian King Muhammad V , Sultan of Kelantan , abdicated on January 6, 2019. Malaysia is an electoral monarchy, the head of which is elected by the nine rulers of the country's subnational monarchies from among their midst for five years. Since the country's independence in 1957 has been based on a rotating principle, as a result of which the local rulers successively take over the dignity of Yang di-Pertuan Agong , the election of the Sultan of Pahang was due. This man, Ahmad Shah, was 88 years old at the time, restricted in the exercise of his official duties due to illness and age, and resigned on January 15, as he was unable to exercise the office of sultan or king for health reasons. Abdullah became his successor. A few days later he was also elected king and sworn in on January 31st.

family

Abdullah is married to two women, with whom he has a total of nine children, including Crown Prince Hassanal (* 1995), who took over the reign of Pahang during his father's tenure as king.
