The Forum Ziviler Friedensdienst (forumZFD) eV is an amalgamation of almost 40 organizations and currently around 130 individuals who are committed to the civil peace service . The organization is based in Cologne and was founded in 1996. The organization sees itself as an advocate for the idea of civil peace service and civil conflict management . In order to strengthen this idea, the association itself acts as a supporter of projects in the civil peace service and sends its own " peace experts " to conflict regions. It also supports and coordinates secondments through its member organizations.

As part of its Academy for Conflict Transformation, it also offers training opportunities of various lengths for peace workers and conflict handlers, as well as training on specific topics. The three nine-week and one four-month qualification courses in civil conflict management take place each year mainly in English and can be completed with the "Peace Expert" certificate.

Use of skilled workers

At the moment there are almost 30 skilled workers mainly in various countries in the Western Balkans (ex- Yugoslavia ) and Israel and Palestine . There, dealing with the past and trauma as well as the interethnic dialogue are fields of action. In 2008 the Philippines were added as a further project region, where the conflict is focused on Mindanao . In addition, forumZFD also carries out municipal conflict counseling projects in Germany. The cities of Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Tübingen, Hamburg-Bergedorf and Quakenbrück are currently taking advantage of the advice.

financing

The association is financed from membership fees, donations and other fundraising measures. The funds for the foreign projects as well as the qualification work come largely from the Civil Peace Service program in development cooperation of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Networks

The association is a founding member of the European Network for Civil Peace Intervention (EN.CPI - until 2014 European Network for Civil Peace Services) and the global Nonviolent Peaceforce. It is therefore part of a worldwide movement that advocates the dissemination of professionally designed civil society alternatives for constructive conflict management.

Foundation, endowment

A foundation of the same name, founded by the forum, has existed since 2014.

Awards

The forum ZFD has been awarded the Gustav Heinemann Citizens Prize (1997), the Göttingen Peace Prize (2005) and the Sievershauser Encouragement Peace Prize (2014).

Academy for Conflict Transformation

The Academy for Conflict Transformation is the training facility of the forum ZFD. In courses, trainings and other events, she imparts knowledge and skills for professional peace work at home and abroad. Most qualification measures are aimed at people who work or want to work in civilian peace service projects or closely related areas (e.g. conflict-sensitive development cooperation). In addition, the academy also offers events and information for beginners and part-time mediation courses.
