Subang Jaya

Subang Jaya is a major Malaysian city with 708,296 inhabitants . It is located immediately southwest of Kuala Lumpur in the state of Selangor . The urban area belonging to the Petaling District has an area of about 70 km².

Subang Jaya was initially founded in 1974 as a district of the neighboring Petaling Jaya to meet the growing demand for housing in the greater Kuala Lumpur area. Formerly there were oil palm - and rubber plantations in today's urban area. Subang Jaya has been an independent community since 1997, with large residential areas being built on. The population, which was 78,494 in 1991 and 423,338 in 2000, recorded annual growth rates of over 10% and exceeded that of Kuala Lumpur in the late 2000s, making Subang Jaya the most populous city in Malaysia. After an administrative reorganization of the administrative areas, the city "lost" a large part of its inhabitants, who are now assigned to other areas. According to the latest statistics from 2010, Kuala Lumpur is again Malaysia's largest city, while Subang Jaya is fifth.

In terms of traffic, Subang Jaya is served by several highways and expressways. Suburban trains connect the city to Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang .
