biathlon

Lars Berger started biathlon in 1990 and has been part of the Norwegian national team since 2002. Already in the 2003/04 season he achieved three World Cup victories and 5th place in the overall World Cup.

At the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang , South Korea , Berger won the silver medal behind Ole Einar Bjørndalen and ahead of Halvard Hanevold in the Norwegian quadruple sprint triumph . In the final season he won the gold medal together with Emil Hegle Svendsen , Hanevold and Bjørndalen. At the 2010 Winter Olympics , Berger finished 46th in the sprint and 23rd in the pursuit.

Since the end of the 2007/08 season he has been trained by former biathletes Raphaël Poirée and Egil Gjelland .

Berger's sister Tora was also active in biathlon.

Cross-country skiing

In addition to the biathlon, Berger has also competed in cross-country competitions. At the military world championship in 2004 he was able to prevail against the entire world elite of cross-country skiing. A first highlight in Berger's career was winning the relay gold medal in cross-country skiing at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 in Oberstdorf , Germany , making him the first biathlete to win a cross-country skiing title. He was also fourth in the 15 km freestyle in Oberstdorf. Despite these successes, Berger did not participate in cross-country skiing at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo , Japan , Berger was back in cross-country skiing. He was first world champion in the 15 km freestyle and together with Eldar Rønning , Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeset and Petter Northug also won the gold medal in the 4x10 km relay.

Together with Hjelmeset, Northug and Martin Johnsrud Sundby , Berger won the silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
