Career

Beginnings

Henrik L'Abée-Lund contested his first race in 2004 in Geilo as part of the Junior European Cup. In all of its races that year, L'Abée-Lund came in single digits. The first major event was the 2006 Junior World Championship in Presque Isle . The best results were a sixth place in the individual and fourth place with the relay. The 2007 Junior World Championship in Martell was more successful . In the individual he only reached 18th place, in the sprint he won bronze, he was sixth in the pursuit race and in the relay he won the silver medal. The Norwegian then started at the European Junior Championships in Bansko and won the bronze medal there in individual. In 2007 L'Abée-Lund competed in its first race in the European Biathlon Cup . The next major event was the 2009 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa . In the individual as 13th and in the sprint as 16th he missed top ten placements, in the pursuit he came in fifth. With Dag Erik Kokkin , Tarjei Bø and Rune Brattsveen , he won the gold medal in the relay competition in front of the teams from Germany and Russia.

Nationally, L'Abée-Lund first made a noteworthy appearance in 2006, when he won the title at the Norwegian championships with the representation from Oslo og Akershus alongside Kristian Martinsen , Stian Eckhoff and Halvard Hanevold . In 2009 he won silver in Lillehammer with Eckhoff, Martin Eng and Hanevold, and in 2010 in Simostranda with his brother Magnus L'Abée-Lund , Eng and Christian Sæten he was again champion. He also won his first individual medal in the sprint behind Emil Hegle Svendsen and ahead of Alexander Os .

L'Abée-Lund made his debut in the World Cup in 2011 in Presque Isle , where he immediately won World Cup points in a sprint as 17th. In the pursuit race, he was able to improve to tenth place and thus finished in the top ten for the first time in the second race. In the 2011/12 season, L'Abée-Lund started in both the World Cup and the IBU Cup . He could not achieve another top ten placement in the World Cup. At the European Championships , he won silver with the relay and reached eighth place in the sprint. The following season was his best. In the overall ranking of the World Cup he reached the 24th place and in the individual ranking the 9th place. The Norwegian relay won at the beginning of the season. At the World Championships L'Abée-Lund, together with Ole Einar Bjørndalen Tarjei Bø and Emil Hegle Svendsen, gold in the relay race. In the individual L'Abée-Lund reached a 9th place at the World Championships. At the pre-Olympic competitions in Sochi , he ran in the sprint for the first time in a single race on the podium and reached third place. In the 2013/14 season , L'Abée-Lund competed almost continuously in the World Cup, as in the previous season. In the pursuit race in Pokljuka he was able to achieve third place again.

For the 2014/15 season , L'Abée-Lund was appointed to Norway's senior squad for the first time. Together with Marte Olsbu he ran in the first single mixed season of the World Cup and is second behind the Russian season. At the world championships in Kontiolahti he only took part in the sprint and the pursuit race. In the sprint he was 35th and was able to improve to 29th place in the pursuit. In the 2015/16 season he was only able to reach the points in the first two races and ended the season in 60th place overall. The 2016/17 season was then again more successful for L'Abée-Lund. In the pursuit race he achieved another top ten result with eighth place. He was also able to win the relay race in Ruhpolding. In the overall ranking he finished 41st.

Despite two top ten results at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, he was not nominated for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . With the Norwegian relay he again won a relay race in Hochfilzen . At the penultimate World Cup station in Oslo , L'Abée-Lund won his first individual race. After a clean shooting he crossed the finish line 6 seconds ahead of Johannes Thingnes Bø , who was also clean .
