Dmitri Petrowitsch Sokolow ( Russian Дмитрий Петрович Соколов ; born May 20, 1924 in Fadjuschino , today Jurgamyshsky rajon in Kurgan Oblast , former Soviet Union ; † July 4, 2009 ) is a former Soviet biathlete , clay pigeon shooter and shooter.

Dmitri Sokolow was a cross-country skier at the beginning of his career and started for Dinamo Ufa . In the mid-1950s he competed in the military patrol and was second in the Soviet championship over 30 km in 1955, in 1958 and 1961 he won the individual titles in the biathlon and was a member of the Soviet national team from 1957 to 1961. He already started at the first international biathlon competitions. He took part in the first biathlon world championship in 1958 in Saalfelden , where he and Viktor Butakov , Valentin Pschenizyn and Alexander Gubin came second in the still unofficial relay competition behind the representation from Sweden. The following year in Courmayeur he finished second in the individual race behind his compatriot Wladimir Melanin . Together with Melanin and Pschenizyn, he won the unofficial relay competition, in which the results of the three starters of the individual race were simply added. With Alexander Priwalow and again Pschenitsyn, he was again second in the relay ranking at the Biathlon World Cup in 1961 .

Sokolow was nominated for the 1960 Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley in biathlon, it was the Olympic premiere of this sport. When the Swedes Klas Lestander won before Antti Tyrväinen , he was sixth and still the worst of the Soviet athletes, as his compatriots Priwalow, Melanin and Pschenizyn came in third to fifth.

From 1963 he turned to clay pigeon shooting. From 1958 to 1964 he was in Ufa coach at Dinamo Ufa , it was 1965, the award Honored coach of the RSFSR awarded the title of Master of Sports , he had in 1958 in biathlon and 1963 Skeet Shooting receive. From 1980 he was again in Ufa trainer at the Trud club for clay pigeon shooting. In 1985 he was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 2nd class. In 1995 he was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports in Cross-Country Skiing .
