Lars Helge Birkeland (born February 11, 1988 in Tønsberg ) is a Norwegian biathlete and starts for the club Birkenes IL .

Career

Lars Helge Birkeland played his first international race during the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2009 in Canada Canmore . In the individual, he finished 12th, was 24th in the sprint, 19th in the pursuit and sixth in the relay race. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he made his debut in the IBU Cup in Idre and was 44 in his first sprint. In the following sprint, he won first points in the same place as 32nd. In Nové Město na Moravě he achieved his best result in the IBU Cup with a 13th place. At the Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Otepää , Birkeland was 38th in the individual, 48th in the sprint and 29th in the pursuit race. At the start of the 2011/12 World Cup in Östersund, Lars Birkeland was 29th in the sprint and 31st in the pursuit and won his first World Cup points at his first appearance in the World Cup.

Nationally, Birkeland won the bronze medal at the Norwegian Championships 2009 in Lillehammer with Sondre Flaa Eieland, Jon Kristian Svaland and Sverre T. Røiseland as the final runners of the Agder region . 2010 came in Simostranda with Eieland, Øyvind Svaland and Jon Kristian Svaland the silver medal in the relay race. At the championships in 2013 in Dombås , he was able to win the silver medal in individual.

Private

Lars Helge Birkeland is the son of Trygve and Turid Birkeland. His younger sister Karoline was also a biathlete and won several national gold medals in the junior division. Today she works as a physiotherapist , u. a. for the youth team of Norwegian biathletes.

In 2015, Lars Helge Birkeland married his teammate Fanny Welle-Strand Horn .
