The 22nd European Biathlon Championships (officially: IBU Open European Championships Biathlon 2015 ) took place from January 27 to February 3, 2015 in the Estonian winter sports resort of Otepää . The competitions were held in the Tehvandi ski stadium and on the surrounding race tracks.
After there was an age restriction between 2009 and 2013 and the championships were therefore a U-26 World Championship, athletes without age restrictions were able to compete again in 2015. While Russia traditionally performed well and won five of the eight titles, including all four in the men's category, it was a championship with rather poor results for Germany, for example, and only one medal won with the women's relay. Traditionally, Eastern European nations tended to focus on the European Championship, while the countries of Western, Northern, Central and Southern Europe and North America were more likely to send the second teams into the race due to the high stresses over the season, despite an otherwise race-free week. Ukraine strengthened their team for the women's relay race with their world-class female athletes.
