Johannes Kühn (born November 19, 1991 in Passau ) is a German biathlete and cross-country skier .

Career

Kühn comes from Tüßling . At the age of twelve he came with his family to cross-country skiing in Reit im Winkl and expressed the desire to learn biathlon. He then did that at the Ruhpolding base, but joined the WSV Reit im Winkl . He has been practicing biathlon since 2002 and was previously active in cross-country skiing, which he continues to do on the side. He works as a customs officer and is trained by Fritz Fischer and Andreas Stitzl . Kühn lives in Ruhpolding in a shared flat with Fabian Bekelaer and Florian Graf .

Between 2006 and 2009 Kühn won the overall ranking of the German Cup three times in a row in his age group. He made his international debut at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2009 in Silesia , where he won the mixed relay title and finished fourth in the sprint and seventh in the pursuit. He started with great success at the 2010 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Torsby , where he won the title in the sprint and with Tom Barth , Benedikt Doll and Manuel Müller in the relay race. In the pursuit race, he only had to admit defeat to Alexander Pechonkin , in the individual he was sixth. A year later he was able to repeat these successes at the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2011 in Nové Město na Moravě . In the sprint race, he missed victory behind Tom Barth, then won the pursuit race and with Steffen Bartscher , Benedikt Doll and Tom Barth the title in the relay competition again.

Kühn achieved his first national success at the German Championships in 2010 when he won the bronze medal in the relay race with Toni Lang and Daniel Graf as Bayern II representatives . In 2011 he achieved further good results with ninth place in the singles, seven in the mass start and four with the relay and the mixed relay. In 2009 he was Bavarian mass start cross-country skiing champion. At the Austrian Championships over 30-kilometer freestyle mass start, he came fourth as a guest starter.

At the start of the 2011/12 season , Kühn started in the IBU Cup for the first time and immediately won points as the 31st of a sprint in Östersund . In the further course of the season he improved to fifth in a sprint in Obertilliach . The first international men 's championships were the 2012 European Biathlon Championships in Osrblie . In Slovakia, the Bavarian came seventh in the sprint as a junior, dropped nine places in the pursuit race based on it to 16th place and won the European championship title in the relay race with Daniel Böhm , Matthias Bischl and Erik Lesser . At the third station of the 2012/2013 World Cup season in Pokljuka , Johannes Kühn started the Biathlon World Cup for the first time. In his first race, a sprint, he finished 17th. He won his first World Cup points and qualified for the pursuit race.

At the Biathlon World Cup in Antholz, Johannes Kühn reached 5th place in the mass start in January 2018. He qualified in the last possible race for the 2018 Winter Olympics . There he was used in the individual race over 20 km after Benedikt Doll had paused and Roman Rees, who was supposed to replace Dolls, fell ill. With six shooting errors, Kühn placed 58th.

At the first race of the 2018/19 World Cup on the Pokljuka , Kühn stood on the World Cup podium for the first time. Thanks to a race with no shooting errors, he finished second in the individual.
