Andreas "Andi" Stitzl (born March 4, 1974 in Traunstein ) is a former German biathlete , cross-country skier and biathlon trainer. He is a professional soldier in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group at the Jägerkaserne in Bischofswiesen .

Career in sport

Andreas Stitzl first appeared on the international stage at the European Championships in Zakopane in 2000 . He became European champion in the sprint and third in the pursuit. He won another gold medal with the relay, which also included Jan Wüstenfeld , Gunar Bretschneider and Ulf Karkoschka . In 2001 he made his debut in Ruhpolding in the Biathlon World Cup . After finishing 41st in the sprint, he finished 29th in the pursuit. In 2001 he returned to the European Championships in Haute-Maurienne . Here he won silver behind the Austrian Günther Beck and gold with the German relay (with Michael Greis , Alexander Wolf and Jörn Wollschläger ). In the 2001/02 season he appeared again several times in the World Cup. His best result of the season and his best ever World Cup result was a fourth place in the pursuit of Antholz , after he had only been 21st in the associated individual race. Other highlights of the season were winning the bronze medal in the sprint at the military world championships in Jericho and participating in his third European championships in Kontiolahti . Here he won his third relay gold together with Daniel Graf , Andreas Birnbacher and Carsten Heymann .

From 2002 to 2006, Stitzl took part in FIS competitions as a cross-country skier . He ran his first World Cup race at the beginning of the 2002/03 season in Düsseldorf , which he finished in 22nd place in the sprint and thus also won his first World Cup points. In January 2003, he took third place in the relay in Nove Mesto, his first podium finish in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 23rd in the sprint. In the following years he ran mainly in the Continental Cup and Alpine Cup . In October 2004, when he finished third in Düsseldorf, he and Toni Lang achieved another podium finish in the World Cup in the team sprint.

Since the 2007/08 season, Andreas Stitzl was national coach of the male youth (J17) as well as base coach in Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau-Arena . As such, he looked after Kati Wilhelm, among others . From 2010 he was the trainer of the course group Ib of the male national team in biathlon. For the 2014/15 season , he took on the position of senior discipline trainer of the men's team alongside Mark Kirchner . At the bases there is usually cooperation between the course groups, but during the World Cup and the training camp, Stitzl is exclusively responsible for the World Cup team or the first course group. At the end of the 2017/2018 season, Andreas Stitzel resigned as assistant coach to Mark Kirchner.

Proximity to the Reich Citizens Movement

In 2016, Stitzl made statements in the course of the issuance of the nationality card that he was close to the so-called Reich Citizens' Movement or its ideology. He is said to have invoked the Reich and Citizenship Act of 1913 and specified "Kingdom of Bavaria" as a further nationality. As a result, his weapons permits were revoked in February 2017. He then had to give up his biathlon rifle. A lawsuit against this measure in July 2019 before the Munich Administrative Court was unsuccessful. The Bavarian Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann welcomed the verdict. In June 2017, after the police murder in Georgensgmünd , the Conference of Interior Ministers decided to deprive all supporters of the Reich citizen scene of their reliability under gun law.
